Helpful answers
Low voltage project FAQs
Direct answers about cabling, fiber, project planning and service coverage.
What is low voltage cabling?+
Low voltage cabling carries communications, security, control or audio and video signals rather than standard building power. Common examples include Ethernet data cabling, fiber optics, security camera cabling, access control wiring, wireless access point connections and conference room systems.
What is the difference between Cat6, Cat6a and fiber optic cabling?+
Cat6 is commonly used for business Ethernet networks. Cat6a supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet across longer copper runs with stronger protection against crosstalk. Fiber carries data as light, supports long distances and is not affected by electromagnetic interference. A site review helps determine the appropriate option.
What information should I provide when requesting a quote?+
Include the project address, property type, requested service, approximate number of rooms or connections, desired schedule and any known equipment requirements. Floor plans and photos of the existing network room can also help clarify the initial scope.
How long does a low voltage installation take?+
The timeline depends on the property size, number of cable runs or devices, pathway access, equipment availability and coordination with other trades. WiredOptics can provide a project-specific schedule after reviewing the scope.
Where does WiredOptics provide service?+
WiredOptics publishes service coverage across Tennessee and Kentucky, including Nashville, Clarksville, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville, Smyrna, Gallatin, Spring Hill, Mount Juliet, Lebanon, Brentwood, Columbia, La Vergne, Dickson, Portland, White House, Bowling Green, Hopkinsville and Franklin, Kentucky.
